Barneys Opened, Old People Conga

The 'Track once again remind us that they're cooler than us because they were at Barneys' opening party last night.

The over-the-top time included a “Love Train” conga line led by The O’Jays, elegant eats by Chez Henri chef Paul O’Connell and a 500-person guest list tighter than many faces in the room!

Wow, that sounds like a rad time, you hep cat.

The Globe gets all socio-economic about it and waxes poetic about how the opening is part of a larger trend that signals:

Has Boston finally arrived?
Today, Barneys New York opens at Copley Place with a two-story mecca of designer fashion and luxury goods. (Think Neiman Marcus for the Paris Hilton set.)…
''There's no question this town is now hip," said Annette Born, principal of Urban/Born Associates, a retail consulting firm. ''We can stand up against New York and San Francisco."

Yeah, well, we have our own little bit of Williamsburg and Hollywood, so why not, right?

Just let us not forget what comes with hanging with the big-city "Paris Hilton set."
