Hearing the news that Filene's Basement will be opening another, not-so-dingy location totally made our morning. For a while we had never gone but had long been regaled by tales of great clothes and even better prices, all in a department store ghetto environment. Honestly, we were expecting Filene's hand-me-downs and we wanted no part in that; on the contrary, however, it is hard for us to adequetly express our appreciation for this store.

Filene's Basement, the Boston landmark where brides-to-be trample each other to buy deeply discounted gowns and bargain hunters poke through piles of clothing for deals, will open a 38,000-square-foot store this fall at The Newbry building in the Back Bay.
