Embattled Concrete Firm Employees Arrested in Connection with Big Dig

The big story floating around town today will certainly be the arrest of 6 people associated with Aggregate Industries, the largest supplier of concrete to the Big Dig:

Six people connected to the Big Dig's largest concrete supplier were arrested Thursday on federal charges alleging they falsified records to hide the poor quality of concete delivered to the massive highway project.

(from a Forbes article)

The problem lies in the fact that the firm is accused of re-using "leftover" concrete, and lying about it. A quick look over their site reveals they have spent a good deal of energy insuring the, ahem, safety of their products:

we have engaged Du Pont Safety Resources to advise on, develop and implement hew initiatives for managing and improving safety standards across all of the Group's operations.

This isn't the first time Aggregated Industries employees have been in hot water legally; back in January of 2005, two executives pled guilty to witness-tampering in connection with a federal investigation into bid-rigging in a Boston-based project. And in August, they were fined $180,000 for environmental violations in its Boston-area plants.

If you're interested, there are job openings at local Aggregate Industries offices too….
