Charlie over at Boston is Funny is compiling a list of the 50 Unsexiest Women. So far, it's not pretty.

Dear Boston Globe

We're curious about a few things, and in the name of transparency (and full disclosure), we think they are valid issues:

Who selects the blogs featured on this page's righthand sidebar? It seems the same few blogs are chosen every update, and we know Bostonist has nothing to do with it. Along the same lines, who is in charge of this page? It seems that the same cabal from the news page is featured pretty prominently here too. We doubt we'll get any answers, but it can't hurt to ask.

It’s Plagiarism Week in Boston

Hot on the heels of the Kaavya Viswanathan story (Harvard undergrad author, signed a two-book deal for half a million dollars, got caught ripping passages from another book), the head of Waltham-based Raytheon has stepped forward and confessed to grifting adages for his free "Unwritten Rules" booklet:

Raytheon chairman and chief executive William Swanson on Monday acknowledged similarities between his booklet, "Unwritten Rules," and a 1944 book by University of California at Los Angeles engineering professor W.J. King, "The Unwritten Laws of Engineering."

Securities analyst Paul Nisbet at JSA Research said he doubted the controversy would hurt Raytheon's Wall Street performance, and noted that the company's share price climbed 1.25 percent Monday to $45.99 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Seems plagiarism pays these days.

Harvard Writer Plagiarized Book

File this under Maroon Moron:

A recently-published novel by Harvard undergraduate Kaavya Viswanathan ’08, “How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life,” contains several passages that are strikingly similar to two books by Megan F. McCafferty—the 2001 novel “Sloppy Firsts” and the 2003 novel “Second Helpings.”

Little, Brown signed Viswanathan to a two-book, $500,000 contract while she was in high school. This is the first book that the Harvard sophomore has produced for the publisher under that deal, and it reached 32nd on the New York Times’ hardcover fiction bestseller list this week.

3 Southern Women with Baggage, in Boston

We were at pubcon Boston this past week. It was fun; we saw Malcolm Gladwell speak, along with a great "bloggers of search" panel with Matt Cutts of Google, Jeremy Zawdony of Yahoo!, and Robert Scoble of Microsoft. The conference is for webmasters, obviously, and is pretty heavy on the search marketing side. We won't bore you with all that, but what we did find today is an account of the tremendous time 3 women had coming to Boston for the first time (from the South) to attend the conference. Here's a taste:

We had agreed to meet there and take the “T” to our hotel since none of us were familiar with the area or this “T” thing (Boston’s infamous public transportation system). It would have been nice to just catch a cab… but that wasnt an option with the Boston Marathon going on that day.

And yes, it gets better than that.

We thank the ladies in this article for reminding us what it means to be a New Englander, and why we're proud to be one through and through.

Cute, We Have a Heckler

This is one of the cutest things ever: we have a heckler! Granted, he's only got one post and he didn't use his name (we suspect it's the same culprit behind the insulting emails we've gotten), but he did post a picture of himself. So we made a pretty picture for him; we hope he likes it!

Mike Mennono has a great couple of closeup pictures over at Boston Grows. Botanical necrophilia we think, but beautiful nonetheless.

A whole bunch more of really freakin' awesome garden photos (taken at the Fenway victory gardens) Mike posted are here.

Vote on the Vag

We all saw the Centerfolds ad that Inside Track said had a misplaced shadow, revealing the needlessly naked model's "vay jay jay" (Inside Track's words). Beyond doubting the accidental nature of this "slip," we've also heard a lot of doubt as to whether it is in fact a vagina (like from Jason and Arianna; we believe in the magic ourselves (we being Dan)). So, we're going to settle this once and for all via the wisdom of the crowd:

Does the Centerfolds ad in the Improper actually contain a vagina?
